Wroxham Holidays, Wroxham, Norfolk

The river upstream from Wroxham and downstream about 5 miles to Horning is freshwater and non-tidal and makes for perfect fishing of most freshwater species even from right outside.

Fishing on the Norfolk Broads

Day boats and day cruisers are popular but not all hirers allow them to be used for fishing.  Check before you book. You must not fish from a moving boat.

The Peninsula Marina and River Bure in Wroxham are renowned for the quality of the pike fishing and attract anglers all year round.

Wroxham Angling & Gun Centre in Station Rd, Wroxham offers tackle, advice and bait and there is a small shop by the bridge which can be seen from the cottage (pictured)

Open fishing boats with smaller outboard motors are ideal for fishermen to access more quiet private spots ideal for fishing, and available for hire locally.

Tackle & Bait

Of course you will be tempted to try your luck at other spots on the river or out in the middle of the broads, or under the shade of river bank trees.  For these you can hire day boats by  the hour, half day, day or for your whole stay (Hire rates very cheap in winter) and keep your boat at the cottage’s free mooring right outside the cottage.  Picnic boats are particularly good as they have cooking facilities for hot snacks and a toilet.  You can also hire open fishing boats with small outboard motors.  If you go a short distance up river, going under Wroxham Bridge you come to several miles of very quiet river with woodland both sides giving an “Amazon” feel.  Just a few minutes from the bridge a left turn enters Bridge Broad, a very small, quiet broad, favoured by locals.  Going downstream beyond the picturesque thatched private properties you come to Wroxham Broad, one of the biggest with huge open space to down anchor and fish where you please.

Fishing parties are very welcome at No:25.  Please store your tackle and any muddy / wet items in the entrance hall where space has been specially kept for this.

There is an excellent tackle shop in Wroxham, within walking distance, which sells a full range of tackle and accessories and a wide variety of baits.  The staff are also excellent for local advice on what baits are good now, and the best places currently to fish, and bait can be ordered in advance.

Wherry cottage (No: 25) is perfectly positioned for the fisherman, being the Peninsula Cottage closest to the waters edge on the main River Bure.  Fishing is private for the Cottages only, and is allowed within the marina, as well as along about 100m of the main river Bure.  As the cottage is available all year round this is ideal for winter fishing (often the best), and at cheapest rates.  Fishing is not allowed in the closed season (Mar 15- Jun 15), and of course a National Rod Licence is needed.  Locally this is available from the Post office in Nisa Local in the shopping precinct. Your private mooring provides the perfect “swim” right outside the door.
